Devastating Inferno at Solvent Company

Dangerous decanting operation led to devastating inferno at solvent company.

Fire Safety

Doncaster firm 'Solvents with Safety' were attempting to fill a smaller drum from a bulk container of highly-flammable toluene, when a build-up of static electricity in the drum ignited the vapour and sparked the fire. The process known as 'splash filling' generates static electricity and the HSE investigation found this to be wholly inappropriate.
